Surging into the playoffs

Completing a surprising surge that began just 12 days ago with a crucial road victory at Mifflinburg, the Danville Ironmen are heading to the District 4 playoffs for the first time under second-year head coach Devin Knorr.

  • Lynn ties career high in Ks, offense completes rally
A nine-inning complete-game playoff win, a career high in strikeouts and Danville grad Ashley Lynn wasn't even the headliner for the Bloomsburg University Huskies on Wednesday.

  • Fast start helps Ironmen end skid
In times of adversity, sometimes all it takes is a little spark. Heading into Tuesday's SVL battle with Selinsgrove, Danville's softball team had little in the way of momentum. They had lost seven games in a row, putting a once-promising season on the brink of playoff elimination.

  • Strong finishes
Jeff Brandt's been coaching a long time in Danville and he's had three decades worth of teams come and go. The 2008 girls track & field team has quickly turned into one of his favorites.

  • Ironmen battle to final out against Warriors
Even though Danville's four-game win streak, one that has the Ironmen on the brink of a return to the postseason, ended Monday, DHS coach Devin Knorr was far from displeased.

  • Leighow-Subway still unbeaten after tough victory over FKNB
Leighow-Subway remained unbeaten in Major Division Softball action thanks to an easy win over Sub Shop and another hard-fought win over FKNB.

  • No luck in this deal, just a hard-working ace
After firing a one-hit shutout the first time she ever put on a college uniform, Ashley Lynn thought she had the hang of things. She quickly realized, however, she wasn't in Danville anymore.
Her best in high school wasn't going to be nearly good enough in college. So she adjusted, the way great ones do.

  • Ironmen back in form in rout of Seals
The last seven days haven’t been the most kind to Danville’s tennis team. A week ago at this time, the Ironmen were 6-2, with an outside shot at the Susquehanna Valley League title. Then they lost three of four matches, including tight battles with SVL frontrunners Hughesville and Loyalsock.

  • Panthers need rally
For a few brief, fleeting moments, the unbeaten Milton Black Panthers found themselves looking up at a scoreboard showing, for the first time this season, that they were not winning. Shocking as it may have been, it didn’t last for long.
