DANVILLE -- Leighow-Subway remained unbeaten in Major Division Softball action thanks to an easy win over Sub Shop and another hard-fought win over FKNB.
Leighow-Subway improved to 6-0 with a 19-5 win over Sub Shop, scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning to cap the victory.
Amber Walter led Leighow to the victory, striking out 10 in 3 2/3 innings while also pounding out four hits.
Walter and Chloe Walters each had four hits to lead Leighow's potent offensive attack that had five extra-base hits. Walter doubled twice and scored two runs while Walters doubled and scored three times.
Maura Brady had a pair of doubles and crossed the plate four times in the victory. Abbey Culver, and Tatum Albertson also added hits while Emily Mottern walked four times and scored three runs.
Walter and Abby Drumheller combined on a one-hitter.
Erika Heath had the only hit for Sub Shop, smacking a double and then later scoring.
The victory over Sub Shop followed up Leighow's 11-8 victory over FKNB in a contest that featured 30 strikeouts from five different pitchers.
Walter outdueled FKNB's Tara Fritz to earn the victory. Walter allowed one hit in five innings of work while striking out 13. Fritz stuck out 11 and also allowed just one hit.
With the game tied at 8-8 heading into the last inning, Walters hit an inside-the-park home run and Brady and Mottern followed with singles and later scored in a three-run rally.
Walters went 2-for-2 with her home run and a double. She scored three times and drove in two more. Hanna Culver hit a two-run single.
Allison Wislock had two hits for FKNB, including a double. Wislock, Addy Jo Burkland and Donnie Ann Keeley all singled and scored runs.
Major Baseball
Cherokee 17, Hawkins 9
Cherokee scored four runs in three separate innings, banging out 13 hits along the way.
The winners raced out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a four-run first.
Sam Dressler led Cherokee with four hits, including a double and triple. Dalton Lupini added a pair of singles and drove in three runs while Zach Shutter had two hits and drove in two.
Garrett Krum added two hits as well while winning pitching Koty Lupini hit a two-run double and Michael Patterson had an RBI triple.
Tom Brouse and Nathan each rapped triples for Hawkins and Torin Lehmer smacked a double. Matt Schifino had two hits and drove in a run while Dan Seebold had two singles. Wesley Yeich also had a hit.
Cherokee 11, CATV 4
Cherokee ran its record to 5-1 thanks to a seven-run second inning.
Three Cherokee pitchers combined on a four-hitter with Garrett Krum picking up the win.
Zach Shutter drove in four runs on three singles and Sam Dressler had a single and double for Cherokee. Koty Lupini also had two hits, including a triple while Krum had a pair of singles.
Jonathan Berkey had an RBI single and Michael Patterson also added a hit in the win.
Ryan Conrad had two singles to lead CATV's offense while Bret Krainak had a double and Coby Schmidt a triple.
GMC 14, Hawkins 4
Three Geisinger pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and the offense broke out with five runs in the third as GMC improved to 4-2.
Kurtis Mordan led Geisinger's 11-hit attack with four hits, including a triple and a home run. Sean Cope also had four hits with three singles and a double. Kodey and Kevin Smeltzer along with Tyler Fisher also had hits in the win.
Tom Brouse hit a home run to lead Hawkins. Nick Pursel and Nolan Ovelman also had hits.
Continental 5, GMC 2
Continental scored three times in the first and added two insurance runs in the fifth to support winning pitcher Phil Stemm.
Alex Mettler singled home two runs in the first inning to put Continental in front for good.
Austin Renz went 3-for-3 with a double to lead Continental. Zack Kozick doubled as well. Stemm picked up the win on the mound and reached base all three times he was at-bat.
Sean Cope had both of Geisinger's hits, including a double.
Continental 9, Southside 7
Continental used a pair of big innings early to offset Southside's big comeback in the seventh.
Continental (5-1) scored four times in the second and added five more in the third to take a quick 9-1 lead. That lead held up the rest of the game, even when Southside broke out for six runs in its final at-bat to put a scare into the winners.
Sam Hinkle's RBI double in the first put Continental in front for good. Austin Renz drove in two runs while Jon and Phil Stemm and Matt Shipe all had base hits.
Trevor Stine had two hits, including a double for Southside. Blake Reimensnyder and Tyler Gregg each smacked triples while Joe Notargiacomo ripped a double.
Metso 10, Service 1st 2
Mark Mullery and Bryson Cromley combined for nine strikeouts and allowed just five hits for Metso.
Metso (2-4) got out quickly with four runs in the top of the first inning. They scored at least one in each inning.
Eric Haney and Gage Reber each had three hits. Haney smacked a pair of doubles. Mullery, who picked up the win, also hit a double while Cromley, Dustyn Kolenda and Josh Knight also had hits.
David Gerth had two of Service 1st's five hits, ripping a double and triple. Colton Riley had a double while Shayne Riley and Ian Ficca also banged out hits.
Senior Baseball
Garvey's 16, Washies 8
Garvey's pounded out 14 hits, including three each from Robbie Riley and Michael Ramsey in the victory.
Garvey's jumped out to an early lead, only to see Washies rally to tie the game at 8-8 in the sixth before Garvey's put it away in the seventh.
Kyle Mordan, Corey Gallagher and Matt McConnell each had two hits for Garvey's while Kollin Henrie and Adam Creasy also had hits. Creasy scored five times.
Garvey's 14, Elks 6
Kyle Mordan had three hits, including a two-run homer to lead Garvey's.
Corey Gallagher also had three singles in the victory while Michael Ramsey added two more. Danny Redell had his first Little League hit for Garvey's and teammates Robbie Riley, Matt McConnell and Brian Sweetra also had hits. Riley and Adam Creasy each scored three times.
Wachovia wins three
Wachovia raised its record to 4-2 with three victories last week as it beat Garvey's 15-8, Elks 4-3 and Moose 3-1.
Saturday night, Zach Russell fanned nine and allowed just one hit in five innings of work before giving way to Garret Llewellyn in the sixth against Moose.
Stephen Salwocki paced the Wachovia offense with two doubles and drove in two of their three runs.
Dillon Clouser singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Elks. Clouser, Llewellyn and Jeff Ross each had two hits.
Llewellyn picked up the win in relief against Garvey's while Russell had three hits, including two doubles. Salwocki and Trevor Leitzel each had two hits.
