NORTHUMBERLAND -- If Danville's Major Division Softball team wants to avoid an early exit from District 13 play, the local stars are in need of a rally.
Milton scored a run in the top of the first inning and neither team dented the plate after that at Northumberland's Acorn Park on Monday night before lightning and rain halted the game.
The two teams will pick things up tonight right where they left off Monday: With Milton clinging to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. The suspended game resumes tonight at 5:30. The winner advances to the elimination bracket final where it will meet Mifflinburg, 6-0 losers to Warrior Run.
Milton got on the board in the first when Mackenna Miller reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and then scored on a double by Brittany Hunt that stayed inside the third-base bag.
Danville had chances to score in the second and third but Milton kept the Montour stars off the scoreboard thanks to stellar defense.
With the bases loaded in the second, Erin Raup lined a shot to shortstop that was snared. Milton's Taylor Batman quickly turned and fired to third to double off a Danville runner and end the threat.
In the third, Danville got the tying run to second before a pop-out ended the inning.
