High school roundup: Danville's Gage scores twice in win over Midd-West

DANVILLE — Gage Reber scored twice off Shayne Riley assists to rally the Ironmen to a 3-1 Heartland Athletic Conference-I win over Midd-West

The Mustangs (8-5, 6-3 HAC-I) took an early lead after Tyler Arbogast scored unassisted in the 11th minute.

In addition to Reber’s two goals, the first one coming in the 20th minute, Jacob Hartzel added a first-half goal that he scored off a Reber assist in the 24th minute for Danville (6-4).

Jon Hauck stopped three shots to earn the victory in goal.

The Ironmen outshot Midd-West 10-6.

FIELD HOCKEY

Midd-West 1, Danville 1 (OT)


MIDDLEBURG — Despite holding a more than 2-to-1 edge in shots and 3-to-1 edge in corners, Midd-West couldn’t score a go-ahead goal against stalwart Danville defense on Wednesday.

The Ironmen and Mustangs fought to a 1-1 tie in the Heartland Athletic Conference-I matchup.

Just 1:01 into the second half Danville’s Tatum Albertson scored the equalizer to knot the game at 1-1.

Alexis Steininger scored Midd-West’s goal with just 30 seconds left in the first half.

Ironmen keeper Kylie Edwards fended off 24 shots.

TENNIS

Danville 4, Shikellamy 1


SUNBURY — Led by No. 1 player Linda Yang’s shutout, Danville’s singles players gave up just seven games in a dominating win over Shikellamy in the regular season finale.

Yang blanked Tracy Knorr, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Christina Murphy dropped Kippy Palko, 6-2, 6-3. No. 3 singles player Alika Lopatka beat Christy Eroh, 6-2, 6-0.

Danville’s No. 2 doubles squad of Maya Shenoy and Abby Culver also won in straight sets. They beat Alyssa Hollenbach and Jenna Bubb, 6-1, 6-2.

Shikellamy’s only win came at No. 1 doubles, where Chriista Beveridge and Tori Brubaker defeated Amber Renz and Jessica Yoder, 6-2, 6-2

Danville finishes the season 7-7 overall, qualifying them for team districts. The torunament begins Tuesday at Bloomsburg University. The time and opponent are to be determined.
