    The minority Snyder County commissioner’s bid to eliminate an assistant district attorney position failed to garner any support Monday from the county salary board.

  • Son pleads guilty to setting parents’ business on fire
    Claiming mental illness, Alvin Ray Hoover pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony arson for setting the Aug. 7 fire that destroyed his parents’ well-known Irvin’s Country Tinware retail store in Mount Pleasant Mills. Mr. Hoover, represented by public defender Robert Steinberg, pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to the most serious charge of first-degree felony arson in Snyder County Court.

    William Gary Sullivan, convicted in 2004 of raping a 12-year-old girl in Shamokin Dam, will get a new trial in Snyder County.

  • Former Port Trevorton man drowns
    A former Port Trevorton man drowned during a church outing at Raystown Lake on Friday, according to authorities in Huntingdon County. They said they found the body of Benjamin Carr, 23, son of Dr. Timothy L. and Karen Carr of Port Trevorton, just after 8 p.m. Friday.
