A “person of interest” was in custody after state police at Selinsgrove said a 71-year-old Snyder County woman was found slain in her home at 4 a.m. Sunday.
Bonnie Jean Snook, 71, of 1542 Creek Road, Beaver Township, Middleburg, was pronounced dead at the scene according to police. They would not release information about the cause of her death.
Police also would not confirm that a second person living in the residence was injured, but a nursing supervisor at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville said a Middleburg area man named Dale Snook was listed in serious condition.
Around 4 p.m., police announced they had a “person of interest” in custody. Police would not release the name of the individual but said he was placed in Snyder County Prison on a state parole violation.
Police said this was an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger.
Police would not confirm or deny if anyone else was involved or was being questioned.
Police remained on the scene well into the evening, but declined to release more information about the case.
Throughout the day, officers were seen entering and leaving the house on Creek Road, which sits directly across the street from the God Missionary Church and next door to the God Missionary Cemetery.
Neighbors said the Snooks were nice people, and were shocked to learn the news.
“I’m stunned,” said a man who did not want to give his name. “This is something you would never expect to happen.”
Another neighbor said she too was stunned.
“I don’t know what to say,” she said. “We rarely even see one police car out here, let alone see so many. I’m just in shock.
