LEWISBURG — The Susquehanna Valley Chorale (SVC) will hold announce its Fall Opera Gala at 3 p.m. Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Weis Center for Performing Arts, Bucknell University.
Back by popular demand, this is the second time the SVC will perform opera favorites. “We were so pleased with the positive response to our last Opera Gala, that we decided to hold another Gala performance to kick off the 2013 concert season,” said SVC music director and conductor William Payn.
Headlining this year’s event will be world class opera soloist AnnMarie Sandy. Sandy is an accomplished soloist with a bachelor of music in music performance and a master of music in vocal performance from The University of North Texas. The mezzo-soprano was featured in the world premiere of the Central City Opera production of Mollicone’s “Gabriel’s Daughter” as Eliza Jane, and in the cast of the New York City Opera premiere of Danielpour’s “Margaret Garner.”
“We are very excited to have a performer of AnnMarie’s caliber as a part of this event,” Payn added. “Her passion for her craft illuminates the stage and will surely add to the experience and the grandeur of the great choruses, arias, duets and ensembles that will stimulate the senses and fill the hearts of the audience.”
The SVC will perform 12 famous opera choruses by some of opera’s most recognizable composers, including Wagner, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, and many more. The SVC will be joined by a full orchestra and the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale. Patrons will also be invited to join a Gala Reception following the concert.
Tickets are currently available for purchase through the Bucknell Campus Box Office and are also available online at www.bucknell.edu/Boxoffice (for locations, phone/email contact and online purchase link). The SVC listing can be found near the bottom of the page under “Miscellaneous Events.”
