Congregation faced with ending lease seeks new place to worship

— DANVILLE – Members of Danville’s Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church are in search of a new place to worship.

The congregation, led by Pastor Roth Reason, had been leasing space from the Seventh Day Adventist Church located along Heather Hills Road, but that church decided not to renew the lease for the coming year. “They’ve given us reference letters to other churches, they’ve just decided they want to be able to use the building on Sundays,” Reason said.

His congregation of about 50 to 60 people, primarily from the Danville area, has until the middle of February to find a new location. “We’d really like to stay here in Danville,” he said.

“Right now, we are in negotiations with two different churches that are considering a rental agreement with us,” Reason continued. “Nothing is signed yet and probably won’t be for about a month … We’d really like something nailed down by the end of January.”

Reason is hoping to have a location that will let his congregation continue to meet in the morning and allow them to have their four Sunday school classes. “It would really take a church that would be big enough to house that many people,” he said. “We’ve definitely seen some smaller sized churches where we could get everybody in, but they don’t have the extra rooms we need.”

They had already looked at Studio Brick along Route 11, which used to be a church, since it was recently put up for sale. However, the space was not big enough for their needs.

“My real top choice would be to work with a church that could use some rent money,” similar to the agreement Redeemer had with Seventh Day, Reason said. The congregation would be willing to work around the schedule of other churches interested in offering them space.
