Students sort, hang art for Spring Thaw

DANVILLE — Students sorted artworks and picked up partitions for the annual Spring Thaw Art Show and Sale on Thursday.

The show, in its 37th year, started Thursday and continues from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday in the Hawkins Showroom, 435 Mill St. Admission is free.

Danville High School independent art students Sara Turner, Alison Willoughby and Kirsten Kepler, all seniors, helped to hang and display the pieces for the community show.

They also entered some of their works. Sara said she would display two oil paintings while Alison planned to hang a chalk pastel of a bird and Kirsten would show a print.

This was the first year they were helping to set up, although they have entered works in the show in the past.

Mary Fallon Shultz, show co-founder with Ken Conner, brought her oil on canvas of wetlands for the show.

Among other artists bringing works was Logan Shultz, of Riverside, with two oil paintings on wood titled Epsilon and Lambda. He also entered two watercolors.

“I participated last year and when I was in high school,” he said.
