— STATE COLLEGE – An online fundraiser has gone live to help a Danville graduate build a mobile architecture studio for use in rebuilding New Orleans homes.
Aaron Wertman, a 2007 Danville High School alum and current architecture grad student at Penn State, is looking for $15,000 to finish construction on “Apparatus X,” an RV that he and several Penn State volunteers are converting into a combination workshop and living area that can be driven to disaster sites in order to assist in rebuilding efforts. Wertman plans to take it to New Orlenas later this year and help rebuild homes in the city’s Lower Ninth Ward, which is still devastated after the effects of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
There is still 30 days left for fundraising on the website IndieGoGo, with more than $3,000 raised so far. Donations can be made at the site https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/apparatus-x-empowering-disaster-victims.
