DANVILLE – Sumo wrestling, dance and some surprises will be part of this year’s Sumo Shakedown.
Proceeds will benefit Challenger baseball’s trip to their world jamboree Mother’s Day Weekend.
Billed as “A Night with the Titans V,” the shakedown begins at 6 p.m. April 11 in the Danville High School gym, Admission is $5 at the door.
Volunteers from the community will suit up to bump bellies in one-on-one contests to be king of the circle, said Greg Molter, Challenger baseball director.
The Karen Gronsky School of Dance will perform a new routine.
There will be audience participation games, door prizes and a chance for someone from the crowd to go up against the mystery guest wrestler The Montour Mauler.
Molter expects to have six matches with organizers still working on the match-ups.
Last year, the benefit raised about $1,500. This is the fifth year for the event.
Proceeds last year enabled 72 players, siblings and parents to attend the jamboree which is equivalent to their World Series.
Challenger baseball is for special needs players 4 to 22 if they are still enrolled in school. The program covers a wide area.
Molter thanked the Danville High School administration, the staff, volunteers and families of players, the Montour County commissioners and the wrestlers for helping to make the event possible.
