Voters write in former school director

DANVILLE — A former Danville School Board member received write-in votes in Tuesday’s primary election, according to the official count Friday.

Randy Keister got 19 Democratic votes and a few other write-ins of various spellings of his name. On the Republican side, he received 14 write-ins.

He would have to petition the Montour County Court to have the names certified as his if he wants to run for the office, according to election board officials.

Two school board candidates were listed on the ballot for four four-year terms.

Board member Dr. Gregg Campbell, who previously announced he wasn’t running again, received eight Republican write-in votes and other write-ins of variations of his name. Campbell got six Democratic write-ins.

Ten write-ins are needed to be listed on the ballot.

In Cooper Township — where Democratic incumbent Bud Mottern removed his name from the ballot after a candidate questioned spellings he included on his nomination petition — Mottern received nine Republican write-ins under the name of Wallace B. Mottern for a six-year supervisor’s term.  He got seven Democratic write-ins plus variations of the spelling of his name by both parties.

No one was listed on the ballot for the six-year supervisor’s term.

In Danville’s Third Ward, Republican Tom Wickham received eight Democratic write-ins with the first name of Thomas and seven write-ins under the first name of Tom.

Republican incumbent Betty Ann Moyer, who was defeated by Wickham for the Republican nomination, got eight Democratic write-ins.

Wickham would have to petition the county court to have the names certified as his in order to combine the write-in counts, election board officials said.

Democratic Incumbent Montour County Treasurer Jim Petro received 19 Republican write-ins and two Republican write-ins with the first name of James.

Jesse Kline, who won the Republican nomination for treasurer, received 25 Democratic write-ins with his name spelled correctly and 13 other write-ins with his name spelled other ways.
