— DANVILLE – Increases in school district health insurance plans will result in a 10 percent raise in total coverage costs for the 2013-2014 school year.
The estimated cost for health insurance for the 2013-2014 school year $3.266 million, according to district business manager Janis Venna.
The cost of one district health plan decreased due to fewer members of that plan requiring medical service, but the cost of other plans increased. The Danville school district currently uses five plans to cover its employees, however one plan will be dropped at the beginning of 2014.
The district offers family health plan through Geisinger Health Plan to full-time administrators and members of the teacher’s union. District support staff members, have access to an individual coverage plan offered by Geisinger Health Plan, unless grandfathered into the family coverage plan, Venna said.
All other employees have access to one of three plans offered through Central Susquehanna Trust, though one of those will be discontinued by Blue Cross and Blue Shield on Jan. 1.
Health coverage costs for the 2012-2013 school year were $2.969 million.
