DANVILLE — DANVILLE – A man told Dereck Martz he robbed him of his childhood by molesting him.

The man, now 23, looked at Martz, 28, Monday and said, “You destroyed my childhood. The alleged incidents occurred from 1997 through 2002 when he was 7 to 12 years old.

Following a preliminary hearing lasting nearly 2 and a half-hours, Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder sent the 60 charges lodged against Martz to court. Martz remains in the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township in lieu of $750,000 bail. Shrawder dismissed a charge of terroristic threats.

He is serving a sentence of up to four years for indecent assault and corruption of a 12-year-old girl dating back 10 years. Martz is also listed as a Megan’s Law offender.

The alleged victim, who is not being identified because of the nature of the case, said there was a typographical error in the charges filed by Danville police. He said it should have stated Martz molested him more than three to four times a week in the summers of 1998 through 2002. The complaint stated it was in 2006. The victim said the sexual assaults ended in 2002.

County District Attorney Rebecca Warren said she would change the charges to reflect 51 counts. Shrawder said that would have had to occur before the hearing. Warren said she would amend them on the court level.

Shrawder dismissed a charge of terroristic threats requested by Martz. Martz argued that charge carries a five-year statute of limitations. The district judge researched the law and agreed.
