Montour County pooches getting licensed online

DANVILLE — Since Montour County started accepting applications online for dog licenses, 16 owners have taken advantage of the new service.

“We had seven almost all at once Monday and had a real early one Friday morning,” said Montour County Treasurer Jesse Kline Tuesday of the service announced Friday.

“It’s the time of year we won’t get a lot. It will really show its value next year,” he said of when the licenses are up for renewal.

“We’re getting the word out about dog wardens,” he said.

Dog wardens have been canvassing the county to check for dog licenses and rabies vaccinations.

He said dog licenses run according to the calendar year. “That is confusing to some folks. They think when they come in to renew a license, it will be good until that time of year next year,” he said.

On Monday, his office in the courthouse issued its first lifetime dog license paid for by a credit card.

They now accept credit and debit cards as payment in the office or online for dog licenses, hunting and fishing licenses and for licenses for small games of chance and bingo.

A small service fee will be assessed for using a credit or debit card online.

Dog licenses can be purchased online at A $2 fee is charged per license with the treasurer’s office mailing the license tag to the owner.

There is a link to the dog license site on the Montour County website as well as the treasurer’s website.
