DANVILLE — Councilman Tom Wickham commended borough employees and firefighters who braved single-digit temperatures during a recent weekend water valve break at Pine and Walnut streets.
Wickham, who lives near where a valve popped off resulting in water flooding several basements, said borough employees worked from 9 p.m. until at least 9 a.m. to fix the break.
He said that crew included Public Works Director John Hack. Wickham said fire companies pumped out the water from the basements of the homes. He thought the water valve broke because it was old and due to the frigid temperatures.
Those attending Tuesday night’s Danville Borough Council meeting applauded the workers and firefighters.
“We have some awesome people working in our town,” Council President Scott Richardson said.
Richardson lives across the street from the fire that gutted a home recently on Spruce Street. “I saw what they did and how they saved the house. I thank you for all your hard work,” he said.
