MAHONING TWP. – Adults will get a chance to relive or create a new prom experience complete with professional photos, crowning of a king and queen and dancing to benefit two causes.
The Second Annual Prom ReRun will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 21 in the East End Fire Company, 1344 Bloom Road.
This year, which is the second year for the event, the prom rerun will benefit the Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital’s ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund and Montour County’s Relay for Life.
Last year, proceeds went to the relay.
Besides the crowning of a king and queen, prizes will be awarded for best vintage outfit, best dressed couple, most risqué and most character.
Those attending, who need to be 21 or older, can wear old or new prom attire.
Professional photos will be taken by Fusion Studio Photography.
The theme will be a snow ball with music by JC Sound.
There will be light refreshments along with a cash bar, according to Julie Gombert who is coordinating the event with other registered nurses Kimberly Green and Denise Miller. They are nurses in the children’s hospital.
With last year’s event raising about $1,200, they are hoping to surpass that amount with $1,500.
Proceeds will be split equally between the cancer fund and relay for life Team Sunshine. The cancer fund helps families of pediatrics cancer patients with bills, food and other expenses while their children are hospitalized.
“Last year was very successful. We had a better turnout than we had hoped for. People were very generous,” Gombert said.
She and the other nurses coordinated the prom rerun last year.
Tickets are $20 per person and $30 per couple.
