DANVILLE — St. Cyril preschoolers and kindergarten students kept moving for an hour to raise money for a charity Wednesday.
They swooshed a parachute up and down, bounced on balls, tried their hand with hula hoops, moved around the floor imitating animals, walked on stilts and played Simon Says.
Each year, they raise money for a different charity, said kindergarten teacher Betsy Finn.
This year’s activities, supported by pledges from family and friends, will benefit St. Francis Mission at St. Helena Island, S.C. Three sisters from St. Cyril were asked by the bishop to direct the mission to raise money and oversee the activities.
The mission of the center is to work toward breaking the cycle of poverty through education. The center provides food, clothing and shelter to families, Finn said.
While they didn’t have a count of what was raised, Finn said they usually collect $2,000 to $3,000.
This year, a parent contributed $1,000. “We’re blessed,” she said.
Donations may be sent to St. Cyril Preschool and Kindergarten at 580 Railroad St., Danville.
