DANVILLE — Old Forge Brewing Company will play host to one of its own the night of June 27 when professional musician Mark Sosnoskie plays his first show at the establishment.
Mark Sosnoskie has bartended at Old Forge on-and-off for the past two years, when he hasn’t been performing with his band, Marah. His performance at the Old Forge Brewing Company will run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Sosnoskie is trained in guitar, bass and trumpet and claims inspiration from musicians and groups such as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Marley and even classical composers such as Mozart.
I’m just one of those guys I appreciate every type of music there is as much as I possibly can. It’s a constant learning thing…you always have to be experiencing new things,” he said. “It’s a whole lifestyle I embrace fully.”
Sosnoskie, a Shamokin resident, has also played with the band Marah for about three and a half years now. He describes the sound of the central Pennsylvania-based band as indie rock and “Americana rock and roll.”
“I’ve played everywhere from Canada to Mississippi” with Marah, said Sosnoskie.
The band has been around since the 90s and has previously played alongside acts like Bruce Springsteen and country singer Steve Earle. The band is currently working on their tenth album, titled “Mountain of Minstresly.”
In 2011, Marah, with Sosnoskie on bass, toured the country of Spain. “We have a huge fan base over there,” said Sosnoskie. “Our fans are pretty die-hard over there.”
Before joining Marah, Sosnoskie had never even been on an airplane before, but on this trip he and his bandmates went everywhere from big cities like Madrid and Barcelona to smaller villages.
He said he was fortunate to have a band with a really good promoter and great fans, some of whom followed them around to every stop on their tour to visit, chat and help set up.
“You just want to keep on playing music and making people happy and having the time of your life,” said Sonoskie.
