Decades dancers will raise funds to aid in breast cancer fight

DANVILLE — For the first time, Hawkins Chevrolet is sponsoring a Dancing Through the Decades event to raise money for breast cancer.

Hawkins’ team will again participate in the walk for breast cancer in October.

The dance, from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 24 in Danville’s ballroom on Mill Street, will be a family-friendly ladies-only dance featuring some girl fun, according to Mindy Hawkins and Tina Gower.

Dance proceeds will help Hawkins’ breast cancer walk team Cruzing for a Cure to reach its goal of $4,000.

Bart Koser of DJ Fusion Sounds is donating his time for the dance.

There will also be a photo booth donated by Randell Mcglynn of Epic Services.

“We have many fabulous raffles and prizes. We are hoping for a big turnout that will raise a lot of funds while supporting a good cause and lots of girl fun,” said Gower, a Hawkins employee.

There will be prizes and refreshments.

Those attending are asked to dress in their favorite decade and be creative. There will be prizes for the best dressed.

The organizers also are seeking items to raffle off at the dance.

Tickets are $25 for an adult and $15 for ages 15 and younger.

Raffles will include American Girl Doll, Coach and Bike.

For tickets, stop at Hawkins or call Hawkins at 570-274-0169 or Gower at 570-506-3591.

Hawkins and Gower said the event will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society.

Hawkins’ team will participate in the 5K breast cancer walk Oct. 12 at Danville High School. Donations to sponsor the team can be sent to Hawkins Chevrolet at 435 Mill St. Checks should include breast cancer event in the notes section.
