RIVERSIDE — Resident Joe Oberdorf is hoping to put his years of borough service to use as a candidate for mayor of Riverside.

“I was fortunate enough to serve under four mayors as borough manager,” said Oberdorf, including the current mayor Dale Erb. “I think I could provide good services, I know the community.”

Erb has decided not to run for reelection this year.

Oberdorf served as borough manager from 1984 to 2005. His responsibilities in that position included drafting borough budgets and policies. He also served on the borough’s planning commission, as the assistant to the zoning hearing board and as a Southside Department firefighter.

One of his priorities as mayor would be to fine-tune Riverside policy and procedure development. Policies for Riverside should focus more on residential affairs and criminal activities as there are less businesses than in neighboring communities such as Danville or Mahoning Township.

Oberdorf is registered as the Republican candidate for mayor. He will be running against Democrat John LaMotte, a current member of Riverside’s borough council. Oberdorf expects the race to be a friendly competition and that there is no rivalry between the two.
