DANVILLE — A man currently in Snyder County Jail will face Montour County Court action on 50-plus counts for stealing a check and credit cards.
Daniel Ray Shirk, 29, who has no permanent address, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder.
Co-defendant Alynn L. Myers, 20, who had no permanent address when she was arraigned, also previously waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Shrawder.
According to the charges filed by Danville police, Shirk confessed he and Myers stole a check and credits cards and used them as far as Maryland so they could feed their addiction to synthetic marijuana or spice.
Shirk told police he stole the purse of Stephanie Worhach from her vehicle July 21 at Giant Foods at 328 Church St.
Worhach told police the purse contained credit cards, a checkbook, medications and other items valued at $300. She notified police July 22 her Capital One credit card was missing and was being used. Security video at the supermarket showed someone opening the passenger side door of Worhach’s vehicle and removing the purse. On July 24, Worhach told police a $260 check she had was cashed at Central Susquehanna Federal Credit Union on July 22.
Worhach notified police July 24 another credit card was being used.
According to the charges, the Capital One card was used at Sheetz near Danville on July 21 for $55, at T/A in Bloomsburg on July 21 for $125, declined three times at Bloomsburg Walmart on July 21 for a total of $1,437, at Danville Weis Markets on July 22 for $4.98, Danville Dunkin Donuts on July 22 declined three times for $4.43, Redbox on July 21 for $2.54 and declined July 24 at Redbox for $3.18.
A World’s Foremost Bank card was used at Newville Sheetz on July 23 for $105, declined twice at Giant in Chambersburg on July 23 for $211 and declined at Shore Stop in Stevensville, Md., for $1.
Police said videos and photos obtained from a number of the locations showed Myers and Shirk.
Myers told police Shirk took the purse and they used several of the stolen credit cards and cashed the check found in the purse.
Shirk and Myers are each charged with two counts of forgery, one count criminal conspiracy, four counts of forgery unauthorized act in writing, 11 counts of criminal attempt, one count of criminal conspiracy forgery, two counts of access device issued to another, three counts of access device unauthorized use, three counts criminal attempt access device fraud, four counts identity theft, 11 counts criminal attempt identity theft, one count of theft by deception, one count of theft from a vehicle, one count criminal conspiracy theft from a vehicle, two counts receiving stolen property, one count criminal conspiracy access device fraud, one count criminal conspiracy identity theft, six counts criminal attempt access device fraud, one count access device issued to another and one count possessing an access device issued to someone else.
