DANVILLE — A borough council member praised two Danville employees for creating filing cabinets and decorating them in council chambers.
“Kudos to the code people for making beautiful filing cabinets,” council member Betty Ann Moyer said of code officer Bill Brady and code administrator Jackie Hart.
Hart also added fall decorations on top the wooden cabinets in the chambers on the second floor of the municipal building on Mill Street.
The filing cabinets will be for council members’ use.
Moyer also commended whoever fixed the microphone system council members use to speak at meetings.
The meeting was also the first meeting for junior council member Sarah Finn, a junior at Danville Area High School. Council President Dick Johns welcomed her.
Council members also learned municipal authority member Bryan Holmes will be resigning as of Oct. 31.
“I have learned a lot during my time on the board but feel it is best for me to make room for someone with the time and expertise to devote to the position,” Holmes wrote in his letter of resignation to Authority Chairman Walter Shultz.
The authority plans to act on his resignation at its meeting Oct. 14.
Authority members are expected to recommend a replacement to the council for consideration sometime in November.
“He will be missed on the authority,” Johns said of Holmes.
Council members adopted a resolution establishing penalties for a summary offense for violating the borough’s property maintenance code.
Anyone convicted of violating the code can be sentenced to pay a fine of $100 to $300 for each offense.
The council will hold meetings to prepare the 2014 budget. They will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9, Oct. 16 and 21 in the council chambers. The municipal authority will hold budget meetings at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 also in the council chambers.
