DANVILLE — More than 230 pounds of drugs were removed from medicine cabinets and turned over to police and the sheriff’s department Saturday in Montour County.
The Danville Police Department collected nearly 200 pounds of drugs or seven boxes, according to the department.
Mahoning Township and the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force received 33 pounds of drugs at the courthouse, according to Mahoning Township police.
They were participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Everyone was invited to bring unwanted medications for disposal. The service was free and anonymous with no questions asked.
Old prescription drugs which remain in medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, according to police.
