Margaritas, black ice don’t mix

DANVILLE — DANVILLE — A man who drank a can of margarita he kept under his bed “to try to get moving” was involved in a hit-and-run accident, according to police.

After the accident Jan. 9 at Ridge Road, east of Scenic Drive, John R. Barricklow, 52, of 814 Ridge Drive, drove his 2006 Chevrolet Equinox from the scene and parked it in the lot of Reichart’s Mardi Gras in Cooper Township, according to Tpr. Garrett Marvich.

The officer spoke to Barricklow at Swartz’s Collision parking lot where Barricklow said he hit a patch of black ice which caused the crash. He told the officer he hit a wire from a telephone pole.

At that time, the trooper could smell alcohol on him and asked if he drank any alcohol that day. Barricklow said he drank the margarita while in bed. When asked why he drove from the scene of the accident, Barricklow said he didn’t think there was damage to his vehicle. Police found moderate damage to the driver’s side rear wheel area.

Marvich charged him with driving while under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive on the right side of the road, failure to stay in a single lane, careless driving and accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property.

Police said his blood alcohol level was 0.106 percent.
