— RIVERSIDE – Citations will be issued against two owners of blighted properties within Riverside borough.
The citations, which will be filed against the properties at 196 D&H Avenue and 302 Gearhart Street, will include fines, according to borough secretary Deb Bausch. The amount of the fines will be determined by the local magistrate, Bausch said.
The borough council resolved to issue the citations at their May 5 meeting. Borough code enforcement officer Jackie Hart had recommended the citations against the two properties based on lack of renovation progress by the property owners.
Four mailings had previously been sent to 196 D&H by Hart, who had reported in April that she was unable to get in touch with the property’s owner after repeated attempts to do so. The owner of 196 D&H has until May 24 to appeal, according to borough council president John Novak. If they do not, a citation will be issued every day the property is not improved.
The borough council had previously rejected a plan submitted by the owner of 302 Gearhart for a series of renovations to the property. The council rejected the plan as they felt it offered no concrete timeline or plan of action. Since then, no renovation has been made to the property.
Five other blighted properties within the borough are also being investigated by Hart. The owner of 101 Elysburg Road is scheduled to meet with Hart on Wednesday with all the documentation he needs for a planned demolition of his building.
Novak told the council that Hart was pleased with the progress made at 305 Third Street until her most recent visit. Trash had been placed outside the property and siding had torn loose and started flapping in the wind after the last few heavy wind storms, she reported.
“She said its pretty unsightly,” Novak said.
At 1112 Avenue F, Hart said the owner had trimmed trees away from the roof was returning in June to take care of other problems with the property.
The council recently confirmed for Hart that 413 Avenue F was unoccupied, so she will pursue it as a vacant property, Novak said.
Hart is researching proper contact information for the owners of 912 Sunbury Road, Novak reported.
