Police: Child, 2, hands officer drug pipe during domestic disturbance investigation

— MAHONING TWP. — A reported domestic dispute ended with a two-year-old boy handing a marijuana pipe to a police officer.

According to documents filed at Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder’s office, officers from Mahoning Township and Danville’s police departments responded to a call at 10:27 a.m., Jan. 25 at 306 Evergreen Pointe. The dispute involved apartment resident Jody Hills, 20, and his sister in-law, Nicole Hills.

While one officer spoke with Jody Hills in the apartment’s public hallway, another spoke with Nicole Hills inside. During this time, a two-year-old boy gave the officer inside the apartment a blue and green glass device used to smoke marijuana, police said.

Jody Hills was asked to reenter the apartment at this time and the officers asked both who the pipe belonged to. The officers said nobody was under arrest and they did not have to answer any questions. Jody Hills responded that the pipe was his and that he threw it in the trash before the officers arrived, police said.

Jody Hills later requested an ambulance to transport him to Geisinger Medical Center’s emergency department. An officer spoke with Hills from an emergency room bed and again told him he was not under arrest and did not have to speak with the officer. Hills, without being questioned, told the officer he threw the pipe in the bathroom trashcan before the officers arrived because he was afraid the officers would find it or that Nicole Hills would tell the officers about it. Hills admitted to buying the pipe from a man at Bloomsburg’s Hardware bar for $20, police said.

The pipe was taken to Mahoning Township Police Department where its contents tested positive for marijuana.

Charges for possessing drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct were filed against Jody Hills on Feb. 4. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. March 17.
