The Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau believes tourism is critical to the economic well-being of the region and will continue to market, promote and support our local communities.  The number of travelers visiting Pennsylvania in 2012 posted the highest growth rate since the recession, with the state hosting an estimated 192.3 million domestic and international travelers. Hotels and meeting facilities, attractions, cultural institutions, restaurants, tour companies and transportation providers employed more than 470,000 Pennsylvanians in 2012, representing 6.5 percent of the state’s total employment. That same year, the tourism industry generated more than $4 billion in state and local taxes.  Tourism benefits all Pennsylvanians… Pennsylvania’s state and local governments would have to tax each household an additional $810 per year to replace the taxes generated by travel and tourism. In our region alone travelers spent $622 million in 2012, maintaining the highest proportion of spending on food and beverages among the state’s 11 tourism regions.

The visitors bureau encourages residents to support local tourism assets.

Free copies of the visitors guide are available at 121 Papermill Road, Bloomsburg,  or 316 Mill St. For those living outside the area planning a trip to Columbia and Montour counties, a full version is available for instant download from their website,
