DANVILLE — St. Joseph School students and their families are helping a homeless shelter and a family where three young brothers died in a fire in Rush Township.
Students and CCD classes from St. Joseph Church collected numerous items and money for The Gate House shelter for the homeless in Mahoning Township.
They presented them Tuesday to Gate House Executive Director Tom Dougher and Gate House Board President Dave Brady.
The collection served as the Lenten project for the school and the classes.
Students also collected more than $2,500 for the Dissinger family.
The money was presented to Brian Wiktor who works in direct lending at M-C Federal Credit Union where an account has been set up to aid the family.
Killed in the fire April 4 were Arthur Dissinger, 2; Gavin Dissinger, 7; and Daniel Dissingfer, 13. A daughter and a son were able to escape the burning home and go for help. Another daughter was staying with friends that night. Their mother was working at the time.
