Volunteers color 90 dozen eggs for big day

DANVILLE — Fire company volunteers colored 1,080 eggs or 90 dozen eggs Wednesday in preparation for the annual Goodwill Hose Company Easter egg hunt Saturday.

They colored eggs green for ages 9 and up, red for ages 5 to 8 and yellow for ages up to 4.

“New this year is a category for children 1 and younger,” said Fire Company President Deanna Force.

Some of the colored hard-boiled eggs will have numbers on that correspond to prizes.

The Center Street company purchased the prizes with fundraising proceeds and other prizes were donated, according to company secretary-treasurer Lib Bankes.

The company-sponsored hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park. A chicken barbecue will follow at the fire company.

Other Easter egg hunts include the Washies hunt at the Washies Playground, Southside Fire Company’s hunt at the fire company carnival grounds in Riverside, Continental Fire Company’s hunt at Hess Field and Danville American Legion Post 40 sponsoring hunts at the Danville Middle School and the F.Q. Hartman Stadium.

All the hunts start at 10 a.m. Saturday.
