Teacher's Union, School District, Eye April Negotiations

DANVILLE — Members of the Danville Education Association voted for a second time to accept a state arbitrator’s report, though it won’t keep the group from going back to negotiations with the school district.

“We’re looking for a date in April to get together and negotiate,” said Dave Fortunato, president and head negotiator for the DEA. The school had previously unanimously rejected the report and its suggestions.

The arbitrator, a state-appointed fact-finder, was requested by the school district in January after the district’s contract negotiation team felt they had reached an impasse with the DEA. The teacher’s have been off contract since the end of June 2012.

Since one side rejected the report, it is now available for the public to read. The entirety of the report can be viewed at http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/fact-finding_reports/10498.

Both the DEA and the board were given two opportunities to accept or reject the contract terms suggested by the fact-finder. The board unanimously rejected the report twice, once at a special meeting held March 5 and again at their regular board meeting on March 12.

The DEA, which voted on the report for the second time March 14, voted in favor of it twice. They had previously voted in favor of it shortly after the school board’s original rejection of it.
