RIVERSIDE — A new sewer billing system will allow residents to have payments taken directly from their checking accounts while also saving the borough over $3000 in annual fees.

The new electronic system, supplied by the company Diversified Technology, will replace the one formerly offered by FNB Bank, who will be discontinuing the service.

The borough council voted at their March 4 meeting to spend $6500 to install the system, with annual maintenance fees of $650. In contrast, the borough paid over $4000 a year to do their billing, said Riverside Mayor Dale Erb.

“It will be like a two year payback for us,” said Erb.

The new system will also allow residents to have sewer bill payments automatically deducted from their checking accounts. To do so, residents will need to bring a blank check to the borough office at which point the borough secretary, Deb Bausch, will use it to input their routing numbers into the system.

The Diversified Technology software will also give the borough access to detailed billing information on sewer accounts right from their office.

The system, the same one used by the borough of Danville, will be operational in April.
