DANVILLE — Memberships, including new business memberships, in the Danville Ambulance Service are available for 2013-14.
Business memberships provide 24-hour coverage to employees, visitors or patrons needing ambulance transportation from a business. The costs vary according to the number of employees.
Ambulance memberships are necessary because most insurance companies don’t pay 100 percent of total ambulance charges, said ambulance service administrative assistant Dawn Koons-Gill.
A membership covers any co-payments or deductibles. Becoming a member can save hundreds of dollars, she said.
Memberships help the nonprofit ambulance service maintain around-the-clock staff and vehicles. The service, at 12 A St., is 61 years old.
Brochures for membership have been mailed to slightly more than 12,000 locations in Montour County and parts of Northumberland and Columbia counties.
The cost for an individual to join is $35 and $65 for a family.
The family membership covers the applicants, spouse and unmarried dependent children up to age 26.
A spouse or dependent child in a nursing facility will also be covered.
A membership provides unlimited emergency medical service and additional ancillary services, when available, through Oct. 31, 2014.
The ambulance service provides safe and comfortable transportation, door-to-door service, well-trained and courteous drivers, assistance in and out of a home and assistance to and from the wheelchair van.
