— DANVILLE – Two members of Danville High School’s marching band will be performing at the upcoming Orange Bowl halftime show.
Seniors Harry Baum and Chris Morgan were two of approximately 100 high school students recruited from 350 to 400 applicants across the nation to perform at the game as part of the 2013 All Star Invitational Marching Band.
To win a place in the band, Harry and Chris first received letters of recommendation from band director Jeff Smith. In late August, they were accepted to audition, which required them to submit two videos to the group via YouTube, one of them playing a song on their instrument and another of them marching.
Only about one-quarter of the applicants who apply are picked to perform, Chris said.
“I’m really excited for it. It’s an experience not many get to have,” Harry said.
“Considering we’re the first two from Danville ever to attend, I hope it starts a trend,” Chris said.
