Driver pinned under her own car

DANVILLE — A woman was pinned under her Toyota sedan for about 16 minutes Wednesday after she chased the car that began rolling in the Geisinger Medical Center parking lot and was knocked down.

Neither Mahoning Township police nor Geisinger officials would identify the woman by late Wednesday. She was conscious when driven across the parking lot to Geisinger by Danville Ambulance, said Chad Thomas, of Mahoning Township police.

The woman was trapped under the red sedan at approximately 12:09 p.m. and freed by emergency personnel around 12:25 p.m.

It is unclear what caused her car to move backward, Thomas said, adding that her emergency brake may have come loose. The woman’s car door was open and hit her when the Toyota rolled, Thomas said.

A group of people in the parking lot helped the woman after she was found. They told Thomas that her head was trapped under the Toyota, but they managed to move the vehicle to reduce pressure on her head.

East End Fire Department also responded and assisted in freeing the woman.

Jamie Kleman, of Coal Township, witnessed the accident from the first-floor window of Geisinger’s Women’s Health Services clinic, which overlooks the parking lot.

He said he saw the woman run after the car when it started moving, but then his view was obstructed by a window blind. When he saw her again, she was on the ground under the car. Kleman began yelling for help.
