Community Foundation now accepting scholarship applications

— BERWICK — The Central Susquehanna Community Foundation announces that applications for scholarship awards for the 2014-2015 academic year are now available. All scholarship applications will be completed and submitted through a web-based program. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate students and non-traditional students residing across the Foundation’s 5 1/2 county regional service area, have the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarships. Deadline for online submission is April 10, by 10 p.m. The eligibility criteria for each scholarship administered by the Foundation, which require an application process, can are listed below:

n Orlando C. Scopelliti Scholarship

This scholarship is available for high school graduates from any school district within the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation service area (lower-Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties) entering degree programs for the care and/or education of the mentally and physically challenged. Students are eligible to apply upon acceptance to a qualified program for bachelors, associate or technical degree for the care and education of the mentally and physically challenged. This is a one-year award in the amount of $400.

n William S. and Virginia L. Hartman Family Scholarship

Warrior Run High School seniors attending The Pennsylvania State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Special consideration will be given to students who are studying agriculture or education, have exhibited a high degree of academic achievement and community involvement (4-H or other educational and service oriented youth programs), and to students who are the first in their immediate family to attend a bachelor’s program. One year scholarship(s) award up to $2,800.

Sunbury Area Community Foundation

n Sunbury Area Health Fund, Nursing and Allied Health Scholarships

The Sunbury Area Community Foundation offers scholarships to students who reside in the Shikellamy, Selinsgrove or Line Mountain school districts. Students must be majoring in a health profession field for the 2014-2015 academic year. A health profession is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from nursing and dental assistant, to health education, allied health, therapy, to dentistry and medicine. Enrollment can be in an undergraduate, graduate or certification program at an institution of higher education. Students at any phase in their post-secondary education can apply. Not limited to graduating high school seniors or “new” students. Must apply for financial aid which you are eligible for (ex. PHEAA). Scholarship amounts will be determined on an individual basis.

 

Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation

n John A. Bolig Seals Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship is available to high school seniors or graduates (alumni) of Selinsgrove School District, who will be enrolled in a post-secondary program (certification, courses, associates degree, bachelors degree) at an institution of higher education or technical school during the 2014/2015 school year. Special consideration given to students who are pursuing a technical career (including heating, plumbing, etc.). A one year award of approximately $1,500 will be awarded.

n Steven and Judith Bottiger Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is available to second, third and fourth year undergraduate students attending an accredited Bachelor of Architecture Degree program with first preference to students studying at a College or University within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Preference is given for graduates of the Selinsgrove Area School District, Snyder County or the Lewisburg Area School District, Union County.

n Simon B. and Kathryn J. Rhoads Family Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is available to high school seniors or graduates (alumni) of the Selinsgrove Area School District. Preference will be given to students pursuing higher education in a field of study related to agriculture, in a two or four year program. A one year award of approximately $400 will be awarded.

n Wayne and Nancy Van Kirk Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is available to high school graduates from Selinsgrove High School who have participated in extracurricular activities and/or community service and will be entering a Trade, Technical, LPN, Business, Computer, Certificate and/or similar Associate Degree Program. The applicant must also demonstrate a financial need and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (based on a 4.0 scale). One-year scholarship award $800.
