DANVILLE — Music, a photo booth, raffles and a silent auction will be part of the first Dancing Through the Decades to raise money to fight breast cancer.
Hawkins Chevrolet is sponsoring the event from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Danville’s ballroom on Mill Street.
The dance will be a family-friendly ladies and girls only dance, according to coordinators Mindy Hawkins and Tina Gower.
Proceeds will go toward the Hawkins’ Cruzing for a Cure team at the Oct. 12 5K walk “Making Strides for Breast Cancer” at Danville High School. The team has raised $1,000 each of the past two years.
They organized the team three years ago because Chevrolet is a national sponsor for breast cancer, Hawkins said.
She said her mother-in-law Ruth Ann Hawkins has been a big part in helping with the dance. Attendees are asked to dress in their favorite decade and be creative. There will be prizes for the best dressed and refreshments.
“We are hoping for 100” participants, Hawkins said.
Tickets are $25 for an adult and $15 for children ages 15 and younger.
Hawkins’ daughter, Lauryn Hawkins, 9, canvassed Lewisburg and Bloomsburg, collecting $400 in gift cards and merchandise for the dance.
Raffles and silent auction items will include American Girl dolls, Thirty-One, Coach, Vera Bradley and Bike purses, a Kindle Fire, an OPI China Glaze nail polish basket valued at $100, a two-night stay at the Sea Bay Hotel in Ocean City, Md., two Tastefully Simple baskets, combination baskets, a SportsPlex basket from Bloomsburg with two one-month free memberships, a Scensy basket, a Dunkin’ Donut basket and gift cards and donated merchandise.
Two car care baskets can be won by buying a ticket to the dance or donating to the event.
Donations of items for the dance can be made until Friday by calling the car dealership at 570-275-0710.
Names of donors will be displayed at the dance and will probably be displayed at the walk.
Bart Koser, of DJ Fusion Sounds, is donating his time to provide music for the dance.
Randell Mcglynn, of Epic Services, is donating the photo booth.
For tickets, call or visit Hawkins at 435 Mill St. or call 570-274-0169 or 570-506-3591. Anyone wanting to be part of the team for the walk should call the car dealership.
