— LIBERTY TWP – A car skidded off the road and into a ditch after striking a deer along Liberty Valley Road.

A state police officer from the Milton barracks said that Joseph Roscoe, 77, of Mount Carmel, only had superficial injuries following the crash. Roscoe was transported to Geisinger Medical Center by Danville Ambulance.

The deer, which darted onto Liberty Valley Road near its intersection with Mooresburg Road, was killed in the accident, which occurred around noon today. Roscoe had been driving west on Liberty Valley Road at the time, and the impact caused his vehicle to slide into the eastbound lane before coming to a stop in the ditch alongside the east lane. Roscoe’s vehicle was the only one involved in the accident.

A pair of good Samaritans spotted Roscoe’s car in the ditch after the accident occurred and pulled over to help. The man and woman did not wish to give their names but spoke to Roscoe while emergency workers helped treat him. “I was talking to him, making sure he was conscious,” the woman said.

Also responding to the scene were the Liberty Township Fire Department and Valley Township Fire Department.

Traffic was reduced to one lane around the accident.
