WASHINGTONVILLE – Some customers in Derry Township and Washingtonville were without power from nearly three hours today after a truck caught phone wires causing stress on a PPL pole that snapped, resulting in wires falling to the ground along Strawberry Ridge Road.

Initially 1,519 customers lost power but because of remote sectionalizing of service, the numbers were reduced with all service restored by 9:02 a.m.

PPL crews responded and secured the area for safety, said Teri MacBride, PPL regional affairs director. Electric service was rerouted using other circuits.

PPL crews remained to replace the pole and repair the lines.

As of 10 a.m., crews were still working to replace the pole with assistance by the Washingtonville Fire Company.
