Dead Christmas tree? Donate it to Scouts

DANVILLE — Here’s a solution to anyone not sure of what to do with the Christmas tree after the lights and tinsel come off.

They can be donated to a Boy Scout troop to help the Scouts help wildlife.

Six members of Boy Scout Troop 43, of Jerseytown, will be collecting trees in Danville, Riverside, Bloomsburg and surrounding areas.

They want a $2 donation to pick up the trees which will be taken to an area farm to be used as natural game shelter, said troop secretary-treasurer Salvatrice Nichols.

Money raised will go toward re-chartering of the troop “so boys don’t have to come up with their own money to stay in the troop,” she said.

Numerous adults and siblings will be helping with the tree pickup — in its 20th year.

They will be collecting trees Jan. 4.

Anyone who wants to donate a tree should call 570-784-7370 or 570-458-9879.

“We will get the information about where the tree will be,” she said.
