DCDC drive will aid Danville Area Diaper Bank

DANVILLE — Disposable diapers are being collected for the Danville Area Diaper Bank.

The Wall Street and Bloom Road locations of the Danville Child Development Center are collecting the diapers this month.

The center’s qualify of life committee, made up of staff members, came up with the idea, said Joanne Blass, director of child care information services for Columbia, Montour and Northumberland counties, who is on the committee.

“We try to do community events,” she said. Last year, they collected mittens and hats and donated them to the Ronald McDonald House at Geisinger Medical Center.

They also sponsored a canned food drive involving children and parents with the food donated to a local food bank.

“This year we decided on the diaper bank which is always appreciative,” she said.

Blass said the diaper bank is especially in need of diapers in sizes 5 and 6.

“They will also accept opened boxes or packages that the child no longer fits in,” she said.

At the end of the collection, they will deliver the diapers or diaper bank volunteers will pick them up.

Diapers are given away to anyone from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church at 120 E. Market St.
