New owners close Days Inn, will raze building

VALLEY TWP. — The long-time Days Inn at the Danville exit of Interstate 80 has closed, the Valley Township supervisors learned at their meeting Monday night.

Township Zoning Officer Mike Kull reported the business had shut down.

A spokeswoman at the inn Tuesday said the building was being torn down by the new owners. She said she wasn’t sure what would take its place.

A message was left for the new owners to comment Tuesday.

The supervisors also held a reorganizational meeting where Chairman Gary Derr and Vice Chairman Walt Rupert were re-elected.

Supervisor Judy Achy was reappointed secretary and Bruce LaMotte renamed treasurer.

Robert Buehner Jr. was reappointed solicitor.

Scott Edmeads and Tom Bedisky were reappointed to the planning commission and John Fenstermacher and Chad Holmes named to the municipal authority.

Howard Fenstermacher was reappointed to the zoning hearing board.

Kull was reaffirmed as township fire chief.

Jim Sanders was reappointed sewage enforcement officer.

At a township auditors meeting Tuesday, the auditors approved a 2 percent pay increase for township employees. The township has two full-time employees — Derr and his son, Matt Derr, who make up the road crew. Other employees are part-time.

The supervisors will continue to meet the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the township building at 5 Indian Run Road, beginning in February. The exception is the March meeting that will be held the fourth Wednesday of the month.
