Expect plenty to do in Danville in 2014

DANVILLE — Some might say there’s nothing to do.

Danville officials released a list of events planned so far in 2014.

The borough council last week also approved a long list of activities involving the Danville Fire Police for the coming year.

Events planned next year include the Humdinger and Dark-Dinger Trail Runs on March 1, the Spring Fling on May 3, River Towns Marathon and Half Marathon on May 3, the 35th Annual Danville Memorial T-Rail Race on May 24, Memorial Day Parade on May 26, the Robbins Run 5K/10K on June 7, the West Market Street Block Party on June 8, the fifth annual Danville Area Community Center Kids Triathlon on June 13, the fifth annual DACC Sprint Triathlon on June 14 and Danville hosting the Six-County Firemen’s Convention in June.

The summer concert series is planned for June 17, June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22 and July 29.

The Annual Iron Heritage Festival will be held from July 18-20.

The third annual Stiletto Stampede will kick off the annual Fall Arts and Crafts Fair on Sept. 6. The River Towns Cycling Classic will be held Sept. 6 and 7.

Trinity Lutheran Church’s annual block party will be Sept. 14.

The annual Halloween parade will be in October. The Ninth Annual 5K Community Run/Walk will be Nov. 8 at the community center.

Free holiday parking will be provided in the central business district from Nov. 21 through Jan. 2.

Santa’s cottage will be set up at Canal Park from Dec. 5-25, 2014.

Fire police activities

Danville Fire Police activities approved by the borough council include Danville Area Community Center races, a 75-milke bike race, Danville Area School District events, basketball games, district playoff games and wrestling tournaments, Danville Easter egg hunts, football games, school dances, wrestling matches, funerals in the Danville area, the annual CROP Walk, a Christmas parade, a cystic fibrosis bike marathon, Danville Community Band concerts, Elks Flag Day service, Feed-a-Friend, a concert at First Baptist Church, the Halloween parade, Humdinger race, Iron T-Rail Marathon, Iron Heritage Festival, March of Dimes March for Babies Walk, Memorial Day Parade, arts and crafts fair, spring fling, ministerial concert at Danville Middle School, Pumpkin Palooza, Rivertown Race Series events, St. Cyril Academy festival and Susquehanna Valley Chorale Concert, Selinsgrove Market Street Festival, Shiloh Church food giveaway, Six-County Firemen’s Parade, Sunbury’s Rescue Block Party, Bloomsburg’s monster truck event and the Montour-DeLong Community Fair.

Other events include Halloween parades in Bloomsburg, Catawissa, Freeburg, Northumberland, Selinsgrove and Sunbury, Service 1st Appreciation Days, Liberty Township parades, Mooresburg One-Room School open house, Liberty Township dandelion dinner, Milton Harvest Festival Parade, Northumberland Pineknotter Days, parades in Riverside, Selinsgrove School District athletic events, a Union County parade and Columbia County firemen’s parades.
