Board votes to remove playground equipment from DES

— DANVILLE – Members of the Danville school board voted to remove the playground equipment in front of the former Danville Elementary School at their May 13 meeting.

Most of the playground structures have been ruined, according to district maintenance director Rick Engle, due to older, larger children using them. Much of the equipment dates back to 1999.

Engle advised against donating the equipment as some of it was broken and could be hazardous. The playground’s basketball hoops, picnic tables and swing set will still be kept.

There are no plans to replace the equipment, which would cost $18,000.
