Mahoning Township Supervisors: We're enforcing lawn rules

MAHONING TWP. — Members of the supervisor board want to inform residents that the township zoning officer is still working on properties violating high grass and weeds ordinances.

“He is doing his job out there,” supervisor chair Christine DeLong said of zoning officer Dean Von Blohn.

She wanted to remind residents that the township cannot force someone to clean their property the day after notifying them of a violation.

While the unkempt properties have not been a major problem throughout the township, there are usually a few that become nuisances. “It keeps Dean busy,” DeLong said.

Von Blohn is currently inspecting five properties. All have a varying number of days to bring their yards in line with township ordinance. One property has 10 days, another 45, DeLong said.

The properties in question are all “what you might call an eyesore,” said vice chair Wayne Myers.

While most of the properties are not repeat offenders, Von Blohn has been working on one for quite a while, DeLong said. She declined to give the address of the house in question.
