Defendant admits copper theft, animal cruelty

DANVILLE — A man has pleaded guilty to theft, defiant trespass and animal cruelty charges.

Drew E. Fisher entered the pleas Monday in Montour County Court.

Fisher was charged by Mahoning Township police with taking 300 pounds of copper worth $810, taking $40 from a man’s container Dec. 22 and entering an uninhabitable home at 5 Diehl St. on Dec. 19.

Police said he also left a dog in that home for several days without food or water. The dog had an ear infection and needed veterinary care, according to testimony.

He told Judge Gary Norton he needed money but admitted the thefts weren’t a quick way to get money.

Norton also reduced his bail from 10 percent of $20,000 to $5,000 unsecured bail. His release from jail is subject to his having a home plan approved by the county probation department.
