Mahoning supervisors OK camera upgrade at township building

MAHONING TWP. — Members of the Mahoning Township supervisor board approved an $8,112 upgrade for the township building’s camera system at their June 16 meeting.

The improved camera system will make it easier to extract clips for use by the township police department, whose offices are also in the township building.

“Our hard drive that holds them right now is slow,” said supervisor chair Christine DeLong. Footage from police interrogations are regularly used in court, and using the current equipment it can take almost a whole day for the police to download a two-minute clip, said vice chair Wayne Myers.

The cameras will also be used to monitor building security, though break-ins have not been and are not currently a concern, DeLong said.

The camera system was last upgrade around 2005, she said.
