FEMA: No flood map updates until 2018

DANVILLE — Officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency provided updated information about flood maps at a meeting Tuesday hosted by Danville borough.

Local and Montour County officials attended along with representatives of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, said Dan Knorr, Danville administrator of governmental affairs.

An overview was presented of research done following the 2011 flood. The research was done to try to gain insight into how or if the 100-year flood level has changed, he said.

Danville flood maps won’t be updated until 2018.

The current flood map, which is dated 2008, will remain in effect until when the new maps are completed, Knorr said.

Flood insurance rates in Danville are based on the current flood map.

“There are no changes to worry about now. At some point, we will certainly work to keep the community updated but it is still several years away,” he said.

“We are keeping an eye on it as the process moves forward over the next several years,” he said.

Anyone looking to do any development in the borough, and especially in an area that floods, should first schedule an appointment with Jackie Hart, the borough’s director of code and building development, he said.
