DANVILLE — A family on their way to the hospital for appointments was involved in an accident Monday afternoon at Route 54 and Old Valley School Road in Valley Township.

The other driver was taken to Geisinger Medical Center as a precaution, according to witnesses.

Robert Smoker, of Loganton, said he was driving on Route 54 when his red Subaru Legacy was struck by a white Buick Lacrosse, driven by Betty Hawley, 81, of Montoursville, that turned in front of them.

Smoker said he, his fiancée, Sarah Harmon; Piper Harmon, 18 months; and Peyton Smoker, one month; weren’t hurt. They were heading to Geisinger for two of Sarah’s appointments. Smoker said the engine had died in his car.

Hawley was taken to the hospital by a Danville ambulance, witnesses said.

Debris was scattered along one lane of Route 54 from the crash with the Smoker car some distance from the other vehicle.

Responding to the 1:25 p.m. call in addition to a Danville ambulance were the Valley Township Fire Company and Danville fire police.

Both vehicles were towed from the crash by Central Towing.

State police said Hawley will be cited.
