Open burning ban expires

DANVILLE – The open burning ban in Montour County will expire May 10.

The Montour County commissioners had declared the 30-day ban after consulting with fire chiefs and forestry personnel about the number of brush fires this year.

Commissioners Chairman Trevor Finn said Friday it is still dry enough for this to be a danger.

“We are asking people to be very careful when burning and to use caution. We are asking them to use an alternative method such as recycling. We have recycling containers throughout the county,” he said.

“We are still worried about our firefighters, property loss and public safety,” he said.
